Compiled by Carla Wallace '57 Vera Joyce Nelson observed her 90th birthday on July 22, 1993. Nelson is a widely published poet with works appearing in anthologies, periodicals, magazines, and newspapers. The University of O regon library has a collection of her published wo rks. Lupton, CO 80621. Joanne Merrick Owens has retired from teaching special education for Portland Public Schools. Owens' spare time is now spent playing with her two granddaughters and painting water colors. '59 Preston Butcher retired on June 30, 1993 . He was the principal of Russell Elementary School in Portland. '61 Richard Spooner retired in June l99 1 from the State of O regon Vocational Rehabilitation Division after 30 years as a voca– tional rehabili tation counselor and mental hea lth specialist. His wife, Shirley Prater Spooner '6 1 retired in June 1993 from the Portland Public Schools after 32 years as an elementary teacher and reading specialist. '63 Lyman Rigby is a marriage and family therapist with his own private practice in Panama C ity, Fla. 22 PSU Magaz ine '64 John Campbell, an associate professor of speech communica– t ion at the U ni versity of Washington , was one of fou r faculty members to rece ive the university's 1993 Distinguished Teaching Award. Campbe ll has a master's degree and doctorate in rhetoric, rhetorica l criticism and evidence. He researche rhetorica l theory espec ially as it applies to C harles Darwin. '65 Nancy Hays , principal of Boeck– man C reek Primary School in West Linn, O re., was selected to represent O regon 's outstanding ed ucators in Washington , D.C., next September as the 1994 recipient of the prestigious Na– tional Distinguished Principal award. The award , presented by the National Association of Elementary School Principals and the U.S. Department of Education , honors educators chosen by each state, the Dis– trict of Columbia, private, and over eas schools. John Scott was elected 1993 d istrict vice president for the O regon Assocation of Realtors. Scott is the vice president and genera l manager at C ronin & Caplan, Inc. '66 Tom Fouch is a geologist with U.S. Geological Survey in Lakewood, Colo. His wife, Sally '65, is a human facto rs specialist with US West Communications in Au rora, Colo. Elisabeth Siegel Golden MSW is a retired social worker. She does volunteer work with a bereavement group at Lake Oswego Adult Communi ty Center and at Merid ian Park Hospita l. Mark Wallig is a library media specialist at Sacaton Elementary School in Sacaton , Ariz. '69 Janet Gurney Collova is board of trustees chai rman of Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point, .J. Collova is the board's first woman chairman in the hospital's 60 year history. Richard Hawkins was elected CPA to the board of directors of the O regon Society of C PAs. Hawkins, a partner in A rthur Andersen & Co. in Portland, is also a member of the PSU Foundation Board . Lynnette Sabre Hubert teaches American literature and intro– duction to world literature at Lincoln High School in Portland. '70 Robert Jordan is a clinician for Sacramento Mental Health, a crisis counseling center in Sacramento, Calif. Dennis Kavanagh received his master's degree in computer science in May 1993 from Johns Hopkins U n iversity. Roy Rogers was elected vice president of the O regon Society of C PAs. Rogers is a partner and hareholder in Pauly Rogers & Co., P.C., in Tigard. Gerald Schuette is an industrial engineering manager for U nited Parce l Service in Paramus, N.J. '71 Penny Blackwell is a judge for the Court of Common Pleas in York County, York , Pa. She is married to Dr. John Sanstead M. D. and has a 12-year-old daughter, Rebecca. Jane Cornish is the chief finan– cial officer fo r Corn ish & Cor– nish APC, a law firm in Hemet, Calif. Dick Klinger has li ved in A tlan– ta for 10 years and is a freelance voiceover and on-camera performer. He has worked on national and regional radio and TV commercials as well as for corporate benefits, new prod ucts, and sales videos. Marcia Milne-Wellington MS is the director of support services for Sandy Elementary School District in Sandy, O re. Milne is responsible for spec ial educa– tion , TAG, migrant education , Chapter l , and standardized testing. John Rogers works for the Public Health Service/Offi ce of Engineering Services in medical fac ility des ign and construction in Seattle. Prev iously, Rogers spent fi ve years in the Peace Corps, working in Africa and Central America, and 16 years in the Department of the A rmy/Corps of Engineers. Susan Schilke MAT teaches French in elementary schools in Lake Oswego and West Linn. She also teaches piano and Kindermusik, an international program for children l 1/2 to 7 years old. Richard Schulberg was named manager of the business develop– ment division of the O regon Economic Development Depart– ment. Shulberg was prev iously a partner at Rubicon International, a Portland-ha ed management consulting firm. Richard Stout is an attorney with his own pri vate practice in Portland. Edward Ulmer has worked for Pacific Power & Light Company for 16 years and is now the Licoln C ity District Manager. U lmer and his wife of 25 years have two ch ildren. Bill Wordley is the director of market assessment services for Pac ifiCorp in Portland . '72 Steve Coiteux is president and owner of Office Pavilion of San Francisco. He is also co-chair– man of the Herman Miller Dealer Council.
