Several members of the audience had difficulty understanding this, They questioned Mr. Brown extensively as to the degrees held by his staff, He responded by saying that degrees in the classes to be offered in the Liberation School are impossible to ascertain. The people hired to run the school have gained d1eir information through private individual /study, Most of them are college drop-outs who have found that white college education is irrelevant to black life, The staff will function as a co-operative group with each member having as much authority as the next, Mr. Brown included, The activities for the young people will be organized but it will be left entirely up to the child as to which he will participate in, as coming to the school will be left up to the parents and child. There will be no actual recruiting of participants. Mr, Brown's program is being funded by the Portland Greater Council of Churches. Most of these people are unknown to the community. Mr. Brown stressed the fact that the staff members are just a few of area residents who possess knowledge in a subject but are unable to be productive with this knowledge because of the way our educational system is structured, Gabriel Prosser Street has not been blocked off as Mr. Brown has been unable to find a suitable house within the area that will be rented to him for the summer, This street will serve an area for children to play in with organization without having to worry about the cars, The Liberation School will also be on this block. Provisions are being made so that adequate care will be given the children involved. The age range will be from five to 15 years. Volunteers are expected to fill the small staff as 1,300 kids are expected to participate in the program, These volunteers will serve wherever they are needed, remembering to serve the needs of the children, The entire Slack Summer is to be recorded on sound color film for future reference and other film offers.
