Commencement-2020-Program

62 MASEEH COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND COMPUTER SCIENCE Brian Delgado BRIAN DELGADO is graduating with a doctorate in Computer Science. He began his educational journey at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, earning a bachelor's degree in History in 1999. In 2002, he enrolled at PSU and began taking prerequisites to enter the Computer Science (CS) graduate program. After taking one or two courses a term while working full-time at Intel, he formally entered the CS master's program in 2008 and graduated with his master’s in 2010. About a year after graduating, Brian found himself seeking a new challenge and in 2011 he began his doctoral studies in Computer Science. Brian has been working at Intel for over 20 years and decided to pursue his doctorate degree in a broad discipline that is both theoretical and practical. He has always been fascinated by computers and feels empowered by the ability to adapt computers to solve problems he cares about. Brian plans to continue research in industry and may also keep a foot in the academic research world going forward. He would especially like to thank his advisor Professer Karavanic for all of her support and guidance throughout the process of earning his doctorate. He’d also like to thank the EPA-RIMM research team at PSU for all of their contributions on their project. Lastly, he’d like to thank his family and his workplace for the support they provided for him to pursue his education. STUDENT SPEAKERS Ana Tijerina Esquino ANA TIJERINA ESQUINO is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Born and raised in Mexico City, Ana watched as her mother worked tirelessly to move her family to Southern California to escape the increasing violence and provide her children with an opportunity for a better future. She started middle school in the United States in a new language and had trouble adjusting to life in a different country, both emotionally and academically. Navigating through these barriers, she graduated from high school and worked full-time while taking one course at a time at a local community college. After finally landing at PSU, she devoted herself with the unwavering strength that she’d seen her parents use. It was here that Ana got the opportunity to prove to herself that she was smart, hard-working, and capable. In her final year at PSU, she received several scholarships. These scholarships enabled her to devote herself more to student groups and research projects as they made it possible for her to focus on school full time. Ana served as the president of the ASCE PSU chapter and enjoyed traveling to competitions with her fellow members and building her network. For fun, Ana does a lot of hiking and yoga, and is involved with Belegarth, a medieval combat society. After graduation, Ana will start in an engineering position at Mott MacDonald and will be working on a variety of civil and environmental engineering projects. She plans to go to graduate school for the 2021 school year.
