Commencement-2020-Program

19 COLLEGE OF THE ARTS Akitora Ishii AKITORA ISHII hails from Rainier, OR, and is graduating with his bachelor’s in Theater Arts. His love of theater began in high school and drew him to Lower Columbia College, where he earned his associate degree in Drama, and his passion for acting was solidified. Within PSU’s School of Music and Theater, he has been inspired time and again by the resilience and dedication of his fellow students. In addition to facultyled shows, he has had the privilege of working on two almost entirely studenthelmed productions, as actor and assistant director. Outside the Theater Program, PSU’s curriculum has allowed him to study as a filmmaker and engage with student artists of all mediums. During his time at Portland State, his education has been supported by the Goldie Chan Scholarship, the Lois & Oscar Mock Scholarship, the Crowell Theater & Film Scholarship, and the Resident Opportunity Scholarship. The generosity of all involved has made it possible for him to excel in his studies while pursuing his passions. He would like to thank his mentors Devon Allen and Mike O’Connell for believing in him, pushing him when necessary, and making him the actor he is today. He would also like to thank past instructors Susan Donahue and Betsy Richard for guiding his baby steps in the theater. Finally, he would like to thank his mother for her continued love and support of his dreams.
