MARY H. CUMPSTON AWARD FOR SERVICE TOSTUDENTS SANDRA J. FRANZ Sandra J. Franz, associate director of the Center for Student Health and Counseling, has served Portland State for nearly 37 years. The nomination portfolio for the Cumpston Awardis a testament to her excellence in serving students at Portland State University. Ms.Franz began her career at the University as a staffnurse. Her professional expertise, work ethic, and dedication to nursing and to the students resulted in a pattern ofcareer advancement that led to her appointment as director ofstudent health services in 1990. Ms. Franz's ongoing contributions to student services and to the University confirm that she has achieved her selfstated objective of promoting quality health care and health education for students. Ms. Franz's professional colleagues at the University wrote that she is professional, knowledgeable, dedicated, dependable, hard working, and good at relationships. Throughout the years she has increasingly shared her talents and skills with various professional groups in the health care community. The Mary H.
