Portland State University Porttand State University serves a total enrollment of approximately 13,500 from its downtown Portland location. Just over 2,500 students are involved in graduate work. The majority of PSU students come from the greater Portland area. Some 25 states and 30 foreign countries are represented in its nonresident population. Ratio of men to women is about five to four. Seventy-six per cent of the students work part time to help pay for their education. Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees are available in 33 fields from the academic colleges and professional schools. Certificates are granted in special programs of Black Studies, International Business Studies, Public Health, Teaching English as a Second Language. Urban Studies, and Social Service. Area specialist certificates are awarded by the Central European, Latin American, and Middle East Studies Centers. Masters degrees are offered in 30 fields of study. Eleven University departments participate in the three interdisciplinary doctoral programs: environmental sciences and resources, systems science, and urban studies.
