PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY PSU grants undergraduate degrees in 25 areas and graduate degrees in 31 fields. Additionally, undergraduate certificate programs are offered In Law Enforcement, Public Health, Urban Studies. Social Service and International Business Studies. Area specialist certificates are awarded by the Central European. Latin American and Middle East Studies Centers. Other courses are sponsored by the Black Studies Program, the University Scholars Program and Center for the Moving Image. All three colleges of the University participate in a number of pre-professional programs. Portland State traces its beginnings to the Vanport Extension Center in 1946. Flooded out in 1948, a temporary location at Oregon Shipyard in North Portland served until 1952 when the move was made to the present Lincoln Hall. Degree-granting authority came in 1955, university status and doctoral degrees in 1969. The University includes seven academic units: College of Arts and Letters William H.
