l ira Clinton St. Quarterly \Y7^en derrick Bell became Dean of the University of Oregon Law School in W 1981, he warned his faculty that to have a black person in charge of a mainly white institution was abnormal in this society He also made it clear that he would continue to work on and speak out about civil rights issues. Bell resigned his deanship in February of this year over a hiring dispute.
