Talking with DERRICK BELL TVThen Derrick Bell became Dean of tbe University of Oregon Law School m W 1981, he warned his faculty that to have a black person in charge of a mainly white institution was abnormal in this society He also made it clear that he would continue to work on and speak out about civil rights issues. Bell resigned his deanship in February of this year over a hiring dispute. Some law schoolfaculty members objected to hiring an Asian woman who he believed was well qualifiedfor a teachingposition at the law school.
