Because it is not fully developed, the procedure is then to “sweat and gas’’ the fruit to bring out the skin color. This fruit’s sugar levels are significantly lower than our naturally tree-ripened citrus. TREE-RIPENED FOR FULL FLAVOR I buy for flavor. Let others be the first on the block with citrus. Don’t look for navel oranges at Nature’s until almost a full month after their appearance at conventional supermarkets. That pattern holds true for most of our citrus. When it’s ripe, we don’t waste time. Our fruit moves from the tree to the shelf in five days. Twice-a-week shipments ensure you our tree-ripened citrus is fresh. NOT ALL ORANGES ARE CREATED EQUAL Over the past few decades, consumers have been trained to choose fruit on appearance alone. In turn, the orange industry has developed a larger, thick-skinned fruit. It looks fantastic. However, a taste test generally proves it to be watery and pithy. A Nature’s orange is often smaller, yet far richer in flavor.
