SCHRUNK MAYOR WHEREAS, January 15 is the 41st anniversary of the birth 'of the Civil Rights Leader Martin Luther King, Jr., and WHEREAS, in the relatively short period that Dr. King preached his message of peaceful demonstration and worked for the rights of all men his achievements were tremendous, and WHEREAS, his memory will serve to direct the endeavors of all who are working for civil rights for all men; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terry D. Schrunk, Mayor of Portland, Oregon, the "City of Roses", do hereby proclaim January 15, 1970, as MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY in Portland, and urge the people of this city to pay homage. to the memory of this noble :man who gave his life in the service of mankind, to which he had so completely dedicated himself.
